In collaboration with clavis IT ag, a solution was implemented for the anonymous counting of hikers at the foot of the Säntis. The core of this solution is the PMX TCR object counter, which was installed on the path to the Säntis.
The PMX TCR records the number of hikers passing by in real time without compromising privacy. On the second weekend in September 2024, 565 people were counted going uphill and 425 going downhill. The data is transmitted to the Clavis Cloud via the Swisscom LPN network (LoRaWAN) and is available to those responsible for analyses.
This project is part of a larger initiative by Appenzellerland Tourismus AG. Together with clavis IT ag, Säntis-Schwebebahn AG, Appenzeller Bahnen AG, Appenzeller Schaukäserei AG and other partners, the aim is to enable the simple use of these and various other measurement methods in tourism.
What advantages does this solution offer?
- Optimized resource planning: Thanks to real-time data, tourist facilities can better predict visitor flows and plan their resources accordingly.
- Improved visitor management: The anonymized counts provide information about the frequency of use of the hiking trails and help with the planning of infrastructure measures.
- Sustainable tourism: Efficient management of visitor flows can reduce the impact on nature.
The PMX TCR Object Counters impress with:
- Precise counting: State-of-the-art radar technology ensures accurate results.
- Anonymity: No personal data is collected.
- Robustness: The meters are designed for outdoor use.
- Simple integration: Connection to existing systems is uncomplicated.
The project on the Schwägalp shows how PMX Systems is making a valuable contribution to the sustainable development of tourism with the innovative PMX TCR.
